Overview
Grompula is the first game I released on Steam. I made it while initially learning game development using GameMaker: Studio 2 in high school.
Ok, try to stay with me for this part – in Grompula, you play as a Glorkon fighting against hordes of Grompuloids, the henchmen of an evil god named Grompula who has escaped from Limbo. You probably already guessed that though.
The game ultimately boils down to a fairly simple wave-survival game. You kill enemies who drop souls for you to absorb and spend on new weapons and abilites. Enemies will become faster and more plentiful as you progress, and a boss can spawn on certain maps.
There are 3 maps in the game, with one having a Call of Duty: Zombies style easter egg for you to solve, culminating in a boss fight. It was cool to see a few people I didn’t know playing it on YouTube, and someone even created a guide for the easter egg.
While simple, it’s fun to experiment with the different weapons and abilities, ranging from pistols and rifles, to icicle launchers and magic swords. It can definitely help you kill some time.
